A Classy Birthday Card

Busy few weeks and back at school after the summer break so not much time to craft now.   Seems like the Summer flew past in a flash with me still waiting for it to get started.  I don't mind Autumn but feel cheated that we didn't get a good Summer with all the rain, and now we're racing headlong to Christmas. 

Between work and 'The Battle of the Slugs' I have managed to make a few cards, one of which I'm going to share today.  And no I didn't win the Battle, The Slug Gang and their allies The Snail Gang seem to think I'm running an 'All You Can Eat Buffet'

This card was made to order for a friend to give to her daughter.  She wanted something classy but left the design and colour up to me. It's A5 size and I decided on a subtle colour palette so used three papers in the same colour, with white, from Pink Petticoat and teamed them with silver, the image is also from Pink Petticoat.  Colouring this to match proved difficult so I printed a second image onto a solid colour, cut out the shoes and stuck them on.   The sentiments were created in Word and printed directly onto the paper, which was quite a challenge as  it took several attempts before I was happy with the curved writing.  White ribbon, a small silver coloured heart and a few crystal gems finish it off.

Wedding Hearts

'A personalised wedding card please', but no information about the happy couple other than their names, 'I'm sure you'll come up with something', was the request I had from a friend a few weeks ago.

I remembered seeing some cards around Blogland which used heart shapes to represent the bride and groom, so after a few attempts at drawing a suitable sized heart I came up with a template that I was happy with.  After that the card came together quite easily as I already had the 8"x8" (20cm x 20cm) scalloped card blank, a scrap of suitable paper and a length of matching ribbon.

The sentiment was made in Word Art and printed directly onto the card front.  Then some silver card for matting and a cuttlebug embossing folder to create the dress.  I used some flat back pearls to finish it off ... only it didn't look finished ... so I added part of a die cut that just happened to be hanging around (luckily in the same silver card)  from when I was trying out a new Memory Box Die called Honeysuckle Vine.

Baby Cakes

Not a card today, well not only a card.  This is the first time I've made 'Baby Cakes' for a new mum and I'm quite pleased with the result.

  Cake Box and Card

I wanted to get a small gift for the daughter of a colleague and remembered that I had two cakeboxes that I bought on a whim from Tesco a while back.  Obviously intended for a boy and girl as one was pink and the other blue.  The baby being a boy, I bought a pack of  'onsies' in blue and white to make the 'cakes' but when they were together the blue cakebox looked more greeny blue and not a good match.  So the colour scheme had to be blue, green and white; which suited me fine as my favourite colour is green.

I've used digital papers from Funky Hand, printed on paper and card to make the individual cake cases, card and tag and the image is from Pink Petticoat.

B I N G O at Catch The Bug Challenge

I love Bugaboo images and have loads of them - some bought, some won and others that were 'friday freebies'.  This image is one of the bought variety - had to have it because my son has three Guinea Pigs so I knew it would get used.  This card, for his birthday, was made to fit the August Challenge at Catch The Bug which is BINGO.  I've chosed the top line of BOLD AND BRIGHT - PEARL - SENTIMENT.  Now I was OK with two out of three but PEARL had me stuck until I found some small flat back pearl stones in my stash.  Stuck one on each star and the result looks OK and not at all girly.

Decided to have a go at the Less is More challenge, thinking that it would be a quick card to make.

Week 80 - ONE LAYER CARD

The subject to feature FUR or FEATHERS

Well no backing papers to choose but it still took me ages to decide which image to use.  Instead of a stamp I used a digital image so that I could resize it to fill more of the space and added a text box for a simple sentiment and a bit of embossing.   Not sure if I'm happy with the finished card but it's definately only one layer, lots of white space and the bird/stork/whatever satisfies the FEATHERS bit.

Fabulous at 40

Last minute again for the 'Get Funky' challenge which this time is 'Just a number'.  The instructions ask for a large number, no images allowed but text is fine.

The idea for this card came together quite well but took time because I had to cut the large numbers by hand and the black layer took ages to get right.  The green paper was left over from another card and I thought that I would easily find a matching paper for the background - WRONG - I spent ages looking for just the right one and printed several before deciding that they weren't quite what I had in mind.  Eventually settling for this dotty one which is from one of my favourite CD's 'Funky Daze'.  The white base card is 20cm square and the text has been printed directly onto the background with a few black stars added to finish it off.

I do like to enter the challenges at Get Funky, partly to support Funky Hand because I love the designs but also because many of the cards I make do actually feature Funky Hand papers.  This one was made for the June challenge which was to follow a sketch.  Now I quite like having a sketch to follow as it takes away some of the decision making but I found it difficult incorporating the circular element.  However I came up with this card for a friend who was cellebrating her 60th birthday.  The papers are from the Winter Birthday collection on 'Happy Happy Birthday' and the image is by Bugaboo.

Sadly Mr Blogger had fallen out with me again, kept saying that my password had been changed, so I couldn't get into my blog and the challenge ended before I could enter it. Well I've forgiven him now so thought I would share the card anyway.

Beer Monster

Cards don't always turn out exactly as planned (not with me anyway) but this one did and I'm quite pleased with it.  It was number One Son's birthday last Friday and this card was made for his brother to give to him.

  

Can't remember where I got this digital image from but I think it was a freebie.*  I coloured it with ProMarkers in blues and oranges to go with the craft card used for the 'beer glass'.  The layered  image has been shaped and attached with glue gel for dimension and the sentiment was created on the pc and printed directly onto the card.

Celebrate in Style

I made this card for my friend Marie, who turned 60 on the 14th May.  We did 'Celebrate in Style', with six of us (ladies only) flying to Belfast for the weekend.  Marie's brother has been to Belfast several times so he gave us a list of places that we just had to visit, we managed most of them and saw the Titanic Exibition too.  Back late on Sunday then back to school on Monday was tough but we got through the week and now have a sunny weekend to relax - only one more week then it's half term, I can't wait.

I used digital papers left over from a previous project so I'm not certain where they are from but probably a free download from Shabby Princess.  The image is from Bugaboo and has been coloured with ProMarkers.

'New York State of Mind'

It's the title of a song written by Billy Joel some years ago and I haven't actually been there myself.  However the son of some friends of ours was obviously in this frame of mind last year when he and his partner went over to the US to get married in New York.

Last week they celebrated their first anniversary so a New York themed card was .... well .. on the cards.

I  downloaded a picture of the New York skyline then traced it onto black card and cut it out by hand.  The sentiment was created in 'Word Art' and printed directly onto the background, but this white version was about the third attempt.  I tried a pink background with pink lettering first, on a white base card,  but decided that it looked too loud.  Eventually settling for white with silver as I thought that it looked classier.  The finishing touches are a couple of crystal gems in the top corners and a smaller gem to dot the 'i' in Anniversary.

Hole-in-one

This card is not my usual style.  Although I'm not one for adding loads of ribbon, lace, flowers and stuff I don't usually do something as minimalist as this, even on a masculine card.

As my husband and one son both play golf  I'm always on the lookout for suitable stamps or images so when I spotted a pack of die cut golfers at a recent craft show I bought them (as you do) and added them to my ever growing stash.

Some of these impulse buys lose their appeal later and don't always make it to a finished item, but I liked the idea of using this silhouette on a really simple black and white card.  The 'golf ball' is just a circular hole in the black strip of card and the computer generated sentiment was positioned to look like the path of the ball.

I've got 4 more golfers to play around with (a round with - get it?) so I'm going to see if I can come up with something 'more is more'.

40th Birthday Card

I made this card for a friend at school who recently celebrated her 40th birthday.  I was short of time so went with a design that I've used before - saved all the indecision that I usually go through when having to come up with something special at short notice.

The patterned papers are both Pink Petticoat left over from an earlier project. The stamp was given free with a magazine some time ago and I coloured the cakes with ProMarkers before adding some Glamour Dust to the 'icing'.

Let's Get Sentimental

"Long time no blogging."  With one thing, then another, I've not felt like blogging but finally decided that it was time I took the bull by the horns and got stuck in.  Two deaths in my extended family then a skiing holiday at half term meant that my little blog got neglected.  Work, decorating and gardening have taken more of my time but I've still managed to make a few cards so thought it was time I started to put them on here.

It hasn't helped that Mr Blogger has forced me to change over to the new Editor.  I was quite happy with things the way they were, I knew what I was doing (well sort of) but now everything is new and I'm muddling my way through.  According to my reading list some of the blogs I follow haven't had a recent post but if I go on them they have had several, some even today, so not sure why they're not showing up.

 It looks like Mr Blogger still has some problems to sort out.

This card is for the April challenge at Get Funky which is Let's Get Sentimental.  The base card is 15cm square and the papers are all from the Pressie Time collection on the Happy Happy Birthday CD.

Get Funky - Flying High

No internet connection for a couple of days so late with my entry to the February challenge at Get Funky, which is 'Flying High' and finishes at the end of today ready for a new challenge to start tomorrow on the 15th.

The digital image is from Bugaboo and shows a stork delivering a baby boy so I thought it would go with the theme and the sky paper which was this months freebie. I've gone with blue, yellow and white which is my favourite combination for baby boy cards.

I've used Promarkers for the small amount of colouring needed, done a little paper piecing and added Crystal Glamour Dust to the clouds.

January Blues

Finally got my act together and uploaded my entry to the Get Funky challenge for January which is 'January Blues'.

The papers are all from the 'Birthday Boy' collection on Happy Happy Birthday. I've used a white, scalloped card blank from Craftwork Cards and a Penny Black stamp coloured with Promarkers. The mat for the image was cut with a scalloped Nestie and so that there will be somewhere to write a greeting, I've cut a slightly smaller scalloped circle in white for the inside. No sentiment as the backing paper says it all but a couple of buttons were added as a finishing touch, these were threaded with silver cord first because they have 4 holes and looked a bit 'naked'.

I'm also entering this card for the first challenge at Emmas Cards UK which just happens to be 'Shades of Blue', and challenge # 72 on the CES Challenge Blog which is 'Lots of Layers - 3 or more'

Get Funky December Challenge

Well it's a month since my last post - can't believe how fast time flies - but I cleared away my crafty stuff from the Dining Room, so that we could use it over Christmas and have only just felt like getting it out again. So today I had to get a move on as it's the last day for the current Get Funky Challenge which has a 'Thank You' theme.

I've got a cold coming on and don't feel great so it's a quick card this time, no colouring which is unusual for me. I've used a Penny Black stamp that is one of my favourites, mainly because it's been used more than any other and I can find it without too much trouble. Instead of printing more paper I've made do with a piece left over from another project. It's definately by Funky Hand but I can't be sure which collection - possibly 'November Rain' from Craft The Year Away.

I created a Word document using different fonts to write 'Thank You', then printed this over the DP. Next I printed the sentiment directly on the card front in a bigger size, before stamping the flowers to look like they were growing out of the letters. A bit of decoupage then the same image inside and it was done.
